Reno,NV

The Center for Geothermal Studies (CGS) represented the University of Southern California (USC) at the 36th-annual meeting of the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) in Reno, Nevada. The meeting served as the ideal venue to promote the CGS and Global Energy Network (GEN) at USC. Dr. Fred Aminzadeh, USC faculty chair of GEN, along with graduate students Tayeb Tafti and Jesse Katz met with GEN industry sponsors and potential partners to garner support for current and prospective energy research projects at USC. USC also used the meeting to debut the Indonesian Geothermal Educational Capacity Building program, a partnership between the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, USAID , the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and prominent Indonesian energy companies. Mr. Tafti, a Ph.D candidate in Petroleum Engineering, presented a research project entitled Fracture Network Interpretation Through High Resolution Velocity Models: Application to the Geysers Geothermal Field (Tafti, Tayeb A. & Aminzadeh, Fred). Both Dr. Aminzadeh and Mr. Tafti were interviewed by the Meg Cichon of RenewableEnergyWorld.com about USC’s involvement in geothermal development and how the CGS is working to advance geothermal innovations globally.
