ABSTRACT:
Star Energy is a private energy company based in Indonesia with operating and exploration interests in oil and gas and geothermal. Star Energy owns and operates a geothermal power plant with gross installed generation capacity of 227 MW. The facility, situated in the Wayang Windu contract area in West Java – Indonesia, provides 19% of Indonesia’s total installed geothermal electricity. The Wayang Windu plant began commercial operations in June 2000 with a single 110 MW geothermal turbine-generator unit (“Unit 1”). In March 2009, installation of another single turbine-generator (“Unit 2”) increased the gross installed generation capacity by 117 MW. After years of complex and lengthy process to obtain carbon credits, Wayang Windu Unit 2 successfully registered as a CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) project on December 2010. Star Energy is currently pursuing a further expansion (unit 3) of the Wyang Windu facility. In addition, Star Energy is at the pre-engineering and feasibility study stage of a development on Halmahera Island, called the Jailolo project. The Jailolo project would primarily serve the mining industry on this remote island in eastern Indonesia and has a resource potential of 500 MW.
